Javanican, San Diego
| Another coffee shop in San Diego that has potential. Founded in 1978, this was the first coffee shop in Pacific Beach. Strangely never seems to be that busy. One of the smaller coffeeshops around, it's very 'red' inside with a fairly nice atmosphere, complete with antique furniture. They don't have any wireless (even for purchase), which is strange - you would think they would offer this just to get more people in the door. The internet computers there look like they haven't been touched in years! They don't have many places to plug your laptop in either. But at least the coffee tastes good, if a little more expensive than most. $1.95 for a medium house blend is the most expensive in San Diego. |
| Monday nights at Javanican are fun, they have an open-mic night complete with a small stage, so you can come and strutt your musical talent. Maybe they should get live bands other nights to get more people in the door? The food selection is limited at Javanican - mainly bagels and sandwiches, but its good even though mainly vegatarian. They have some cool tables that have built in board-games, like backgammon, checkers and chess - nice little touch. Overall, worth checking out Javanican, especially on monday nights. |
